The lettering on this cover is Arabic, which sets it apart from the English-language copies of Washington Irving's *The Alhambra* that usually appear in collections. Irving published the book in 1832, drawing on his stay in Granada in 1829, when he lived in rooms within the Alhambra, the palace complex built by the Nasrid rulers of Granada in the 13th and 14th centuries. The record gives no date for this print, so its exact age and the edition it shows remain uncertain. Even so, the cover illustrates how far Irving's account of Granada's Moorish monuments traveled beyond English readers.
