Lavrentiy Beria, the head of the Soviet security apparatus, appears among the leaders in this view of the funeral procession for Joseph Stalin in Moscow, with Malenkov, Molotov, Kaganovich and other senior officials nearby. Stalin died on March 5, 1953, and the funeral was held days later, but the record dates this print July 9. The title's word "ousted" reflects Beria's fall that summer, when he was arrested in late June and later executed, so the caption was likely written with that outcome in mind.
