Few blocks in the Loop were as tied to live entertainment as West Madison Street, and this 1926 ink drawing records McVicker's theater on the stretch between State and Dearborn streets. The house took its name from James H. McVicker, an actor and manager who ran it for years. By the 1920s, downtown theaters like it were adapting to motion pictures, and drawings of this kind document the building's form at that moment of change.
