Taken from the statue itself, this view looks outward over the harbor rather than at the monument, which sets it apart from the many pictures of the statue on this board. The Detroit Photographic Company, a firm known for its American city and landmark views around 1900, issued it, and the cyanotype process gives the print its characteristic blue tone. Rivers and boats are its main subjects, and the scene reflects how busy the harbor was as a point of arrival for immigrants and a center of shipping at the turn of the century.
