This portrait shows Henry A. Wallace, whose career moved from agricultural science and the Department of Agriculture to the vice presidency under Franklin D. Roosevelt from 1941 to 1945. The record gives no date, and its caption data is unverified, so the exact occasion is uncertain. Wallace was a prominent figure in New Deal farm policy and later ran for president in 1948 as the Progressive Party candidate. The print is credited to photographer Maurice Constant, and the image is worth viewing as a record of a politician whose public role shaped debates over agriculture, foreign policy, and postwar America.
