A glass negative dated July 20, 1923, and titled for a Kiwanis Club, though the National Photo Company's title is noted as unverified, so the subject and location may not be certain. Kiwanis, a service club for local business and professional men, was founded in Detroit in 1915 and spread quickly through American towns in the following decade. The National Photo Company, a commercial studio active in Washington, D.C., made many such plates for its clients and for sale. The plate shows streaks and blemishes from deterioration of its original coating, which is typical of glass negatives of this age.
