Issued by the Compagnie Algérienne, a bank with ties to Algeria, this 1918 poster urges readers to subscribe to the Emprunt de la Libération, a French government war loan launched that year. Wartime France relied heavily on bonds like this one, sold to ordinary savers as well as large investors, so posters made the appeal in patriotic terms and presented lending to the state as a civic duty. The word "liberation" in the loan's name is worth noticing, since it echoed the hope of the Allied advance that pushed German forces back in the final months of the war.
