Nothing in this picture's record names a specific overlook or view, so it is best read as one of the many roadside scenes along the Blue Ridge Parkway. The road runs about 469 miles along the crest of the Appalachians, linking Shenandoah National Park in Virginia with the Great Smoky Mountains National Park at the North Carolina and Tennessee line. Construction began in 1935 as a Depression-era public works project, and the final section was not finished until 1987. Its curving grades, stone overlooks, and long ridgeline views were designed to show off the mountains from the road itself.
