Water pours over a broad stone ledge here, with a split-log railing set along the edge to keep visitors back from the drop. The rustic fencing is a telling detail: much of the Blue Ridge Parkway's early construction in the 1930s and 1940s relied on native stone and hand-hewn timber, a style meant to blend roadside features into the surrounding mountain forest. Scenes like this one reflect that philosophy, presenting a waterfall as something to be observed from a managed, unobtrusive vantage point rather than conquered or built over.
