A pair of Ifugao newlyweds from the mountains of northern Luzon is the subject of this glass negative, which sets it apart from more typical island views. The Ifugao are known for the rice terraces cut into the steep slopes of the Cordillera, and American interest in their customs grew in the early twentieth century, when the Philippines was under U.S. administration. The Bain News Service, a New York agency, distributed pictures like this one to newspapers across the country. The date and photographer are not recorded, and the title is the agency's own unverified caption.
