Most park posters of the period show summer scenery, so this one stands out by promoting winter. Its title lists skiing, skating, sliding, and sleighing as reasons to visit national and state parks in cold weather. Issued by the U.S. Government Printing Office around 1930, it reflects the National Park Service's effort under Director Horace Albright to attract visitors year-round and to present the parks as more than summer destinations. The artist, Dorothy Waugh, was one of the designers who worked on the Service's posters of that era, and the poster is a useful record of how the government pitched outdoor recreation during the Depression.
