The only identifying detail on this glass negative is its title, DeLuca, which the Bain News Service recorded on the plate or its caption card. That name comes from data the agency never verified, so the subject and date remain uncertain. The negative belongs to the George Grantham Bain Collection at the Library of Congress, the working file of a New York news picture agency that supplied newspapers and magazines with photographs in the early twentieth century. Glass plates were the standard medium for press photography of that era, and the collection as a whole offers a useful view of the people and events that filled American newspapers in those decades.
