Walter Clark of Springfield and Isaac Mackie of Fox Hills are named in the title of this golf match, which the record dates to August 31, 1905. Golf was growing quickly as a pastime for club members and amateurs in the United States in those years, and contests between clubs regularly drew newspaper interest. The image is a glass negative from the George Grantham Bain Collection at the Library of Congress. Bain's New York news service sold photographs to newspapers, but the names and title come from the agency's own notes and have not been independently verified.
