Soldiers without guns" is a 1944 color poster by Adolph Treidler, an illustrator known for many commercial and wartime designs, issued by the U.S. Government Printing Office in Washington. Its title points to the members of the Army whose work kept troops supplied and moving without combat duty, a theme that fit a war in which the service needed clerks, cooks, mechanics and technicians as much as riflemen. The record's attribution comes from an older caption card and has not been fully verified, so the poster's exact purpose is best read from its imagery. Wartime posters like this were a common way to encourage enlistment and public support for the war effort.
