A 1918 color lithograph from the French Naval League, this poster is signed by the artist Charles Fouqueray and its title urges support for both the navy and the merchant marine. The message treats the two fleets as one public cause, which suited the moment, when German submarine attacks had made Allied shipping lanes a pressing concern. The United States Committee on Public Information is listed as a sponsor, a sign of how closely wartime France and America shared propaganda work. At roughly 120 by 80 centimeters, the poster was built for street display, where its bold image could be read at a distance.
