Ratified in February 1870, the Fifteenth Amendment barred governments from denying the vote on account of race, color, or previous condition of servitude. This Baltimore lithograph, titled "The Fifteenth Amendment and its results," was dedicated that same year "to the colored Citizens of the U.S. of America." Drawn by G.F. Kahl and printed by E. Sachse & Co., it was published by Schneider & Fuchs of Baltimore, and it is catalogued among American political prints. The dedication marks it as a celebration aimed directly at newly enfranchised Black voters, and its pictorial details reward close looking.
