The poster's French title, "Pour achever la croisade du droit, souscrivez!", roughly "To finish the crusade for right, subscribe!", is a direct call to buy the 1918 Liberation Loan, the fourth of the Allied war bond drives in France. Its text is aimed at French readers, and the sponsorship by The Equitable Trust Company of New York points to the American banks that helped sell French war debt to investors in the United States. Signed by the artist D. Chavannaz, the lithograph was one of many posters printed that year to turn a financial appeal into a moral one, casting the purchase of a bond as a share in the fight against the Central Powers.
