The entrance and side elevations of the Hamilton County Courthouse in Cincinnati are the focus here, a view of the county's seat of government shown from its public approach. Local architect Samuel Hannaford designed the heavy Romanesque Revival building, which was completed in the late 1880s, so by c1898 it was a fairly new civic landmark. This photogravure, a fine-grained print process popular for architectural views at the time, was copyrighted by A. Wittemann of New York and issued in a series of county courthouse illustrations. The record's date and attribution come from an old caption card and have not been independently verified.
