Frederick Schneider's poster pairs the dedication "To those who served" with the American flag, a combination aimed directly at Vietnam veterans. Produced as a chromolithograph around 1990, it dates from a period when the country was working to give those who fought in Vietnam the recognition many felt they had been denied. The Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington, dedicated in 1982, had by then drawn large crowds and helped shift public attitudes toward the veterans.
