Lem Thomas's color poster from 1944 tells women that they are part of a group of 15,000,000 who have taken the Home Front Pledge. Printed by the Government Printing Office in Washington, it belongs to a wider wartime effort that asked civilians to back the war by conserving goods and accepting limits on what they could buy. Because most household purchasing fell to women, the rationing system depended heavily on them to stretch scarce food, fuel, and other goods. The poster's appeal to collective participation was typical of the government's home front campaigns.
