A rooftop convention hall at the Plaza Hotel in Havana is the subject here, a setting that suggests the hotel wanted to host meetings and banquets with open air and city views. The Plaza was one of the large hotels in central Havana during the 1920s and 1940s, when the city drew American and Latin American travelers for business and tourism. The print comes from the Pan American Union collection, which gathered images of member nations for promoting regional commerce and diplomacy. It was made by American Photo Studios of Havana, so the picture also records the commercial photography trade that served the city's hotels and businesses.
