A troupe of trained pigs takes center stage in this lithographed poster advertising the Barnum & Bailey Greatest Show on Earth, a traveling circus that drew large crowds across the United States in the 1890s. Animal acts were a staple of late nineteenth-century circus programs, and performing swine were a novelty that audiences found especially amusing. The poster was printed by the Strobridge Lithographing Company of Cincinnati, one of the leading firms producing bold, colorful circus bills of the era, which were pasted on walls and fences ahead of each town the show visited.
