This glass negative records a portrait of Nelson B. Gaskill, with a title and date of December 2, 1921, taken from information the National Photo Company wrote on the negative or its sleeve. The company, based in Washington, D.C., produced large numbers of portraits and event photographs in the early twentieth century, and its plates were later gifted to the Library of Congress. Because the title came from the company's own notes and has not been independently verified, the sitter's identity should be checked against other sources. Viewers of this print may notice streaks and blemishes, which come from the natural breakdown of the original emulsion coating on the glass.
