The title points to Antonio Scotti, the Neapolitan baritone who sang for many seasons at the Metropolitan Opera in New York and was one of its best-known stars in the early 1900s. The Bain News Service, the New York photo agency that made this glass negative, sold pictures of performers and events to newspapers, and its plates were often small enough for quick printing. The record gives no date, and the title comes from the agency's own notes, which have not been independently verified, so the exact occasion remains uncertain.
