The record names this glass negative after Queen Marie of Romania, though the title comes from Bain News Service data that the Library of Congress has not verified, and no date is given. Marie, a granddaughter of Queen Victoria, was queen consort from 1914 to 1927, and she became one of the most photographed royals of her era, especially after her widely covered 1926 visit to the United States. Bain News Service was a New York agency that sold news pictures to newspapers, so portraits like this one were made to be reproduced quickly for a public eager for images of European royalty.
