A portrait of a man the National Photo Company identified as Señor Don Ricardo J. Alfaro, dated September 11, 1923, this glass negative carries a title that has not been independently verified. The National Photo Company was a Washington, D.C., studio that worked from the early 1900s into the 1930s, producing portraits and news pictures, and its negatives later passed to the Library of Congress. Herbert A. French gave this one to the library in 1947. Look closely and you will see streaks and blemishes, the result of natural deterioration in the original coatings on the glass.
