The record names a 1912 convention at Saratoga, though the title came from caption cards the Bain News Service wrote, and the cataloguers did not verify it. The picture survives as a glass negative from the George Grantham Bain Collection at the Library of Congress. Bain's agency, based in New York, sold news photographs to newspapers in the early twentieth century, so pictures like this one were made to be published quickly alongside the news of the day. Saratoga Springs was a well-known resort town in upstate New York, famous for its mineral springs and its race track, and it often hosted political gatherings. Viewers should treat the event itself as a lead to check rather than settled fact.
