A copyright line naming A. Loeffler of Tompkinsville, Staten Island, sets this print apart from the other views of the statue here. The caption card gives no date, but the monument was dedicated in 1886 as a gift from France, designed by Frédéric Auguste Bartholdi. Inexpensive photoprints like this were often sold as harbor souvenirs, which makes this one a useful glimpse of how visitors bought their memories of the statue.
