Unlike the other views on this board, this print reproduces a profile portrait of Paul Revere made by Charles Balthazar Julien Févret de Saint-Mémin, a French émigré artist who worked in the United States from the 1790s into the early 1800s. Saint-Mémin drew his sitters' profiles with a device called a physionotrace, then engraved them in small, precise likenesses. The portrait shows Revere as a man of the early republic rather than the young rider of 1775, which is worth noticing when comparing it with better-known images of him. Because the catalog data comes from an old caption card and has been revised over time, the exact date of this photographic copy should be treated with some caution.
