The Statue of Liberty stands at the center of this view, with a city skyline rising in the distance across the water. Its position on Liberty Island, in New York Harbor, made it the first sight of the nation for many immigrants arriving by ship. France gave the statue to the United States as a gift, and it was dedicated in 1886. Color views like this one show the copper-green patina that the statue has taken on over the decades of exposure to salt air.
