This lithograph portrays Anna Doyle Wheeler, the Irish-born social reformer whose name is set in the title beneath the image. Wheeler was a close associate of Robert Owen and a writer on women's rights, and she co-authored with William Thompson the 1825 *Appeal of One Half the Human Race*, a reply to James Mill's argument that women's interests were already represented by their husbands. The print credits M. Gauci with drawing on stone after a painting by J. Porter and notes printing by G. Hullmandel, a London firm known for fine lithography. Its catalog date is given only as a range, so the exact year of printing is uncertain.
