A glass negative titled "Edwards boy," though the Library of Congress notes that the title comes from unverified information written on the negative or its sleeve, so the name and the subject's identity remain uncertain. It is dated to about 1921 to 1922 based on neighboring negatives in the same range. The National Photo Company, which operated in Washington, D.C., in the early twentieth century, produced large numbers of portraits and views, and its glass negatives were donated to the Library of Congress in 1947 as a gift from Herbert A. French. Viewers should look for streaks and blemishes, which the cataloguers attribute to natural deterioration of the original coatings.
