The caption on this glass negative names sculptor Gutzon Borglum, spelled here "Guszon Bolglum," with H.N. Randolph and H.S. Edwards, and dates the scene to November 22, 1923. Borglum was known for large monuments, including the Stone Mountain memorial in Georgia and later Mount Rushmore. The National Photo Company, a Washington, D.C. studio that recorded news and public life in the early twentieth century, made the negative, and the names come from its notes, which the library lists as unverified. Streaks and blemishes on the glass come from deterioration of the original coating, a common condition for plates of this age.
