The room pictured is most likely the Assembly Room on the first floor of Independence Hall, where the Second Continental Congress met and where delegates approved the Declaration of Independence in July 1776. The building, begun in 1732 as the Pennsylvania State House, also hosted the Constitutional Convention in 1787. The date on this print comes from an older catalog card and has not been confirmed, but the view shows the hall as it appeared in the mid-nineteenth century, well before the twentieth-century restoration work that returned its rooms to their colonial appearance.
