This silkscreen poster announces an exhibition of paintings made by children in New York, a subject that sets it apart from the adult-focused work usually shown in the Works Progress Administration's publicity. The Federal Art Project, part of the WPA, employed artists through the Depression and ran a poster division whose silkscreen workshops turned publicity for public exhibitions into a distinctive graphic style. Posters like this one were pasted on walls and boards to draw viewers to free or low-cost shows. Its record dates it to sometime between 1936 and 1941, when the project was at its most active in New York.
