The poster's text asks, "It protected you, will you defend it?" and pairs that question with the American flag, a plain appeal aimed at a home audience in the last year of the First World War. Designer Halsted Frances Adams produced it in 1918 as the first item in a Wentworth Institute poster series, and the record notes it was probably issued by the Slav Press Bureau, so its exact sponsor is less certain. Its subject headings tie it to war bonds and the economic side of the war, which was central to the Liberty Loan drives that asked Americans to finance the effort by buying government bonds.
