Posed as a direct question, "Have you bought your liberty bond?" is the appeal that sets this lithograph apart from the many war-bond posters of 1918. It is the twelfth in a poster series from the Wentworth Institute, designed by Halsted Frances Adams and probably issued by the Slav Press Bureau. Liberty Loan drives, begun by the U.S. Treasury in 1917, relied on eye-catching posters like this one to finance the war and to make buying bonds feel like a personal civic duty. The American flag that runs through the design reflects how closely the bond campaigns tied private saving to national loyalty.
