What sets this poster apart is its bilingual text, printed in both English and Spanish, and its Manila imprint, which points to an audience in the Philippines rather than mainland American readers. The subject headings note crucifixion and rescue imagery, which casts buying a bond as a moral act that could save someone in peril. Printed by the Bureau of Printing in 1917, the year the first Liberty Loan drive launched in the United States, it shows how Washington's war financing campaigns reached the territories as well as the states. The Spanish wording suggests an effort to reach readers of a language still widely used among educated Filipinos at the time.
