Tenth in a series of ten, this 1914 drawing closes a sequence of cartoons that follow a father trying to shed pounds, a comic theme that reflected the era's fascination with dieting and physical fitness. Arthur Burdett Frost, the American illustrator best known for his humorous magazine work and his Uncle Remus illustrations, signed the sheet in the lower right corner. The drawing is in India ink over pencil on bristol board, and its finish shows the clean line work that made Frost's cartoons popular with readers. The sheet was later shown at the Cartoonists Guild exhibition The Art in Cartooning.
