Addressed to "everyone in this plant," this 1917 poster speaks to the workers inside a single factory rather than to the public at large. The United States entered the First World War in April 1917, and the government and industry rushed to produce munitions, ships, and other war materiel at a pace the country had not attempted before. Posters like this one were frequently posted in workplaces, reminding employees that every shift and every machine served the war effort. Notice how the wording turns ordinary factory labor into a direct national obligation.
