Jaffa Gate is the western entrance to the Old City of Jerusalem, the opening through which travelers arriving from the port of Jaffa on the coast reached the walled city. This photochrom print shows the gate as it appeared in the 1890s, when the process produced richly colored souvenir views of the Holy Land. Detroit Publishing Co., which sold these images in America, listed it in its 1905 catalog as print number 15008. The gate's Ottoman-era masonry makes it a useful record of the city at the turn of the century.
