The record names the Elliott Addressing System, a mailing-list device shown at an industrial exposition in 1926. Machines of this kind pressed names and addresses from metal plates onto envelopes and wrappers, which let businesses handle large mailings far faster than typing by hand. The National Photo Company, a Washington, D.C., firm that documented events and sites across the country in the early twentieth century, made the negative. The title comes from notes on the negative sleeve and has not been independently verified, and the glass shows streaks and staining from age that blur some exhibit details.
