This poster advertises Rice's *Evangeline*, a musical burlesque built on Henry Wadsworth Longfellow's 1847 poem about the Acadian exile. Edward E. Rice, who produced the show, turned the serious story into a comic stage spectacle that toured widely in the 1870s. The black-and-white lithograph was printed by the Metropolitan Lithographic Studio in New York and signed by the artist R. Muller, with J. E. Jackson listed as the agent who handled the booking. Posters like this one were a main form of advertising for traveling companies of the period.
