The poster's own caption sets it apart: a "bargain day sale of corsets" in a department store, with a crowd of shoppers pressing toward the counters, all advertising a stage show called *A Female Drummer*. Blaney and Vance managed touring musical comedies and extravaganzas in the late 1890s, and their posters often used lively scenes of crowds and commerce to draw audiences. This one was printed in 1898 by the Russell-Morgan Print firm of Cincinnati, a shop that produced many theatrical lithographs of the period. Its mix of comic retail chaos, chorus performers, and stereotyped portrayals reflects how such posters sold entertainment to the public.
