Few posters in the Works Progress Administration collection name a specific gallery as plainly as this one, promoting watercolors and drawings at the "new Federal Art Gallery" and its Herzog location. The Federal Art Project, one arm of the WPA, employed artists during the Depression, and its New York silkscreen workshop produced posters like this one, whose flat fields of color show what the technique could do for public advertising. The catalog dates the poster to 1936 or 1937, and a date stamp on the back reads December 8, 1937, so it probably circulated around the time of the show.
