This halftone shows three tall hot-blast stoves at the steelworks at Que Que, in what was then Southern Rhodesia and is now Zimbabwe. The stoves heated the air before it entered the blast furnaces, a step that saved fuel and raised the furnaces' output. The picture was printed as an illustration in *Introducing Southern Rhodesia*, a booklet prepared by Britain's Central Office of Information and published by HMSO around 1950. It reflects the colony's postwar push to build heavy industry, when mining and steelmaking were central to its economy.
