Few pictures on this board stretch as wide as this one, a 9-by-43-inch gelatin silver panorama of Army personnel posed with balloons at rest in Arcadia, California. The Huddleston Photo Co. of Los Angeles made it around 1919, and it was registered for copyright on January 6 of that year. The First World War had ended in November 1918, and balloons and airships had been used for observation during the fighting, so the scene captures a period when lighter-than-air units were moving into peacetime. The long format lets the viewer take in the whole crew and the equipment around them.
