Commissioned by the New York City Housing Authority under Mayor Fiorello H. La Guardia and Commissioner Langdon W. Post, this color silkscreen argues that well-planned housing could reduce juvenile delinquency in the city's slums. It was made under the Federal Art Project of the Works Progress Administration, which employed artists to produce public-information posters during the Depression. The poster dates to 1936, a period when New York was building its first public housing projects and promoting them as a remedy for overcrowded tenements, and it reflects the reform belief that the physical environment shaped young people's behavior.
