A silkscreen poster from the New York City Housing Authority argues that bad housing kills children, with its title, "Better housing the solution to infant mortality in the slums," stating the case directly. The Federal Art Project printed it between 1936 and 1938, when the Authority was building its first public housing and the city was promoting slum clearance under Mayor Fiorello La Guardia and Commissioner Langdon Post. Posters like this one were part of a broader effort to persuade New Yorkers that public housing was a public health measure as well as a question of living conditions.
