The Library's architectural collection holds this reflected ceiling plan for the Bank building of the Second Bank of the United States in Philadelphia, a view of the interior drawn as if the floor were a mirror. Congress chartered the bank in 1816 to stabilize the national currency, and the building was designed by William Strickland, whose Greek Revival work shaped American public architecture in the early 1800s. Dated 1818, the drawing predates the building's completion around 1824, so it records design decisions for the ceiling and its layout before construction changed them.
